WCPP research highlighted at international public policy conference

A range of WCPP research will feature at the seventh International Conference on Public Policy in Chiang Mai, Thailand over the course of this week.

WCPP’s Professor James Downe, Dr Eleanor MacKillop and Dr Hannah Durrant will chair a panel over two days on Evidence use: empirical insights on practices and impact of knowledge mobilisation on decision-making.

The panel provides an opportunity to share research on the practices and impact of knowledge brokering organisations (KBOs) such as WCPP, and includes presentations on the role KBOs play in bridging the gap between research and policy (by WCPP’s Rosalind Phillips, with Hannah Durrant, James Downe, Steve Martin and Grace Piddington), the role of lived experience in mobilising evidence for policy (by Dr Rounaq Nayak, with Katie Crompton, Amanda Hill-Dixon and Alexander Jones), approaches to capturing the impact of knowledge mobilisation processes (by Dr Findlay Smith, with Hannah Durrant and James Downe), and the impact of KBOs, such as What Works Centres in the UK (by Dr Eleanor MacKillop, with Ioana Filipas and James Downe).

The team will be joined by researchers from across the world including Canada, Australia, Brazil, and across Europe, who are collectively producing new and innovative research on the topic of evidence use, expertise and impact on policy and public service.

Professor Downe said, who is WCPP's Director of Research said, “This is a high-profile opportunity to share the research of WCPP that informs and underpins our sector-leading approach to knowledge mobilisation that we have refined over more than a decade of supporting Welsh Government and public services across Wales access and apply evidence in their decision-making.
