Improving Cross-cutting Government Working

The Welsh Government’s national strategy “Prosperity for All” seeks to “drive integration and collaboration across the Welsh Public Sector”, and First Minister Carwyn Jones has emphasised that the strategy’s commitments should be delivered in a “smarter, more joined up way that cuts across traditional boundaries.” The challenge to improve coordination across policy areas and public service boundaries is common to many governments, and has a long history. In this project, we are seeking to bring to bear the available evidence on the effectiveness of an array of coordination and integration mechanisms tried across different governments in recent years, to inform developments within and across the Welsh Government.
